In late January this small German plane (similar to the Canadian Twin Ottars that supply some of the smaller American stations) landed at Pole after a 16 hour flight from Neumayer Station (on the coast near 0 degrees longitude). The plane was carrying a medivac patient from a Norwegian station. The pilots spent the night at Pole before returning to their station, and the patient was carried by C-130 to McMurdo and then Christchurch.
