This bear was the most interesting of our visitors during the cruise. It approached the bow of the ship from the starboard side while a group of us were working on the ice, off the port side of the ship, as usual. The people watching from the bridge saw it long before it was near us, and radioed to us to tell us it was coming, so we just went on board, with no problem. But, it put on a nice show for us after we were safely on board. First it walked along the ice off the starboard side, showing no concern about, and little interest in, the 340-foot ship. They're definitely the top predators, so they don't fear too much, and I guess the ship was clearly not a seal, so not very interesting.
