This sign pointing to Alexis Creek helped lead us on a long adventure back to the highway. Our
highway atlas also showed the road leading to Alexis Creek, back on Route 20, so we assumed that
it would be a well maintained road. That turned out to be a bad assumption, but after a little
more than four hours we had cleared four trees blocking the road and made it the 60 km (40 miles)
to Route 20. It was a good feeling to get out of first and second gear, and to find a gas
station. That night we stayed in Williams Lake, the industrial center in the area, with about
15,000 people, and we drove back to Seattle the next day. It was hard to believe that those
places are only a day's drive from Seattle.
