A few kilometers past the previous pictures, I was stopped for about 20
minutes because a construction crew was repaving the road. These horses
were grazing right next to where I was stopped. Unlike other places,
where highways are repaved one lane at a time and traffic passes around
the work, in the North, sections of highway 10 km or more in length are
entirely dug up, and traffic is led through by a pace truck in one
direction at a time, passing around and between the heavy equipment. This
is really the only kind of traffic jam you find up here, and the flag
people controlling the traffic were always friendly and would tell you how
long you could expect to be waiting. During this wait I was able to make
and eat lunch on the tail gate.
