This photo, taken from the 32-meter tower at our work area, shows the new station as well as other parts of the station. The two round, white buildings are the main buildings of the new winterover station. It is self contained, with its own power plant, water, and sewer systems so it can run through the winter without the summer camp. Water for the summer camp comes from melting snow gathered at a clean area every day by a Cat. For the new station, ice below the surface is melted and pumped up to the station so no vehicle is necessary. Parts of the summer camp are visible past the new station. The line in the snow running straight across from left to right, past the summer camp, is the runway where the twin otter lands. Near the new station, to the right of the road running from there to the tower, are a couple of science projects. The wooden arches by the orange container support telescopes that were being used to study how good a site Dome C is for astronomy.
