This shows our main instrument at the top of the tower. Inside the lower box is a radiometer that measures the intensity of the light coming into the fiber optic cable that goes into the device on the right, which lets us point it at exact angles looking at the snow. The output from the radiometer goes into the laptop computer in the other box, with a clear front so we can see the screen. Both boxes were heated so the electronics would work correctly. We were able to operate the computer with the keyboard on top of its box, which survived all summer exposed to the cold and snow.
