During the Easter holiday, Paul, Hanneke and I went on a week-long road trip from Tromsø to Murmansk, south to Kandalaksha, a smaller town in Russia, and then west to Rovaniemi, Finland, and back north to Tromsø. We had talked for some time about doing a road trip to Russia, and we decided it would be a good time to do it. So, we contacted a travel agent in Kirkenes (the Norwegian town on the Russian border), and they helped organize our visas, and then we did a little planning and went for it. Despite (or maybe with the help of) some detours, and a minor interrogation when leaving Russia, it was really a great trip.
Hanneke has also posted photos of the trip on her blog, along with maps of our route from her GPS (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3). Some of the photos here were taken by Hanneke and Paul.
