For three weeks in mid to late August I was on the Norwegian Polar Institute's research ship, Lance, with a group of biologists, oceanographers, and sea-ice physicists on a cruise to the north of Svalbard. We got a lot of interesting work done, and had a good trip along the way. These are some of the photos I took during the trip.
Below are maps showing where we went. Clicking on them will open a larger PDF version. Most of the work was done north and northeast of the island Nordaustlandet. By the time we arrived in mid August, the temperature was already just below freezing, and the ice was refreezing after the summer melt season.
