The 17th of May is Norway's national holiday, when they celebrate
their independence from Sweden and Denmark. They celebrate with
parades in every town—and on ice floes in the Arctic. We actually
had a preliminary celebration on the 16th that was filmed and sent
over the internet to the Norwegian TV channel overnight (it's a slow
connection). That way they could show our parade while showing all
the others. These photos are from the events on the
17th. The first shows people carrying things down to the ice for the
parade and games.
