	After a few days battling the swell, we reached the ice edge. The ice dampens the waves, so the water is generally pretty smooth inside the ice edge. In addition, the weather improved and we started seeing some sun (24 hours a day, as we had sailed north to around 75°).
	Not too long after entering the ice, we had our first polar bear encounter.
	This one just wandered by and didn't get very close, but that was plenty to get a crowd gathered to try to get photos of it.
